I wrote THE DAEDALUS TRANSFER in the year 2000 while I was living alone in a studio flat in London. It was my first serious novel. At the time I was high on books by Arthur C Clarke, Ben Bova, Greg Bear and Isaac Asimov. This was my version of a hard SF space exploration tale.
I remember doing a huge amount of research for this book. I’d managed to locate a three-hundred page PDF of the operational manual for the ISS. I joined the British Interpanetary Society and attended lectures. I tried my best to immerse myself everything SPACE!
While it would never hold a candle to Arthur C Clarke, I do feel it captures some of the awe he was able to emulate in novels such as RENDEZVOUS WITH RAMA and A FALL OF MOONDUST, two particular favourites of mine.
Now it’s 2026 and in recent weeks I have reviewed the text, tidied it up a bit and updated some of the word usage to make it a little more contemporary. It’s also got a brand new cover.
This book never had a paperback version, and now it does. As I was re-reading my proof copy last month, I found I had forgotten so much of what happens. I was pleased to discover that I was having that “just one more chapter” experience.
