Uilleam Whitedale’s Black Horn Vengeful is, at its heart, a fable. The story is set in a small town, but serves as a microcosm of something bigger. Whitedale sets up the rules early and then explores his themes well. He’s woven an intriguing and original tale. His writing is strong, with vivid descriptions and memorable set-pieces. The message, wrapped in blood soaked events, speaks to us about the need to respect nature, because to disrespect it… to kill it, is to bring about your own demise. Humanity would do well to learn this lesson. Black Horn Vengeful is a short tale, easily devoured in one sitting, but its message, for me, will definitely leave a lasting memory.
