Daniel Harper broke into a run. He struggled to stop his bag strap from slipping off his shoulder as he barrelled along the tunnel that led from the Northern Line platform to the escalators, apologising to people as he brushed heavily past them. Once he was on the escalator he bolted up the left side past the line of commuters patiently standing to the right; their desire to get home seemed less urgent than his.
